Still not mobile, the best way to get around Abeokuta fast is by Okada. If that’s not for you, you can take the shabby Nissan Micra taxi’s or order a Bolt.
Abeokuta Bolt drivers charge higher than the app price or they won’t do the job.
If you are not bothered, you can negotiate with the Bolt driver to be with you for the duration and take you back home. Be sure to keep your location live and share your driver’s details & your journey with trusted family & friends.
Security is quite tight in Abeokuta, with frequent police stops all over the place, and every night spot has security. Unfortunately, unlike Light Up Lagos continued by Sanwo Olu & Light Up Oyo by Makinde, which makes Ibadan quite impressive at night, Abeokuta is in virtual darkness at night with virtually no streetlights apart from occasional lights provided by private people & businesses.
When you go out at night, you will find the town virtually empty, unlike parts of Lagos & Ibadan. I urge Govr PDA to commence Light Up Ogun and light up the state capital & major towns in the state.
Saganmu to Abeokuta Road, once lit by OGD & pride of the state, is now in complete darkness with many light poles removed & all the light fittings stolen. What a disgrace! Are we progressing in Ogun State, the Gateway State? I leave it for you and/or government officials to answer that.
Starting early I went to
Imperial hotel on Quarry Road, which has a nightclub called Quench Night Life. It doesnt get busy until after 23:00
There are many relaxation spots in Onikolobo on the Ogun Poly axis, such as Chop Life Lounge, Evento, Royal Nightclub, and Restaurant & Hotel Rooms from.N15 – N26k with AC
Be Weary of Yahoo Boys & Cultists; apart from that, it’s a youthful parg of time to hang out.
I went on to Cincinnati by Labongoes above Chicken Republic in Oke Lewo; it’s a nice joint where you can puff perfumed shisha while drinking and enjoying afrobeats.
Gateway Stadium was once the centre of nightlife in Abeokuta, with a number of ramshackle joints selling alcohol and food along with a host of seedy ladies. Thankfully, former Govr. Amosun demolished the place, bringing sanity & safety to the Abeokuta Night scene.
Behind Gateway Stadium, you will find Paper 2 very nicely kited out with lots of neon lights, open canopies, & loud music, if that’s your thing. The police hassled me for not greeting them at the beginning, but it was virtually empty when I got in.
You can’t go out in Abeokuta without visiting Iwe Iroyin (NUJ Secretariat) Okelewo, opposite GTBank; it is a hype place in Abeokuta You will find Whisperers Bar & Novad Lounge & Club and sizzling suya spots highly recommended. Good food, good music & good atmosphere
Miami 234 bar & lounge is also another banging local joint where you will find DJ’s rapping and doing their stuff. The night I was there, DJ Iris aka EFCC was dropping it down hard.
Ibara Housing has a number of relaxation spots: Mitros Hotel, House 17, Celia’s Suits, Fauntain blue, Moongate, Richton Hotel Keem, & the Royal Mandarin
You can also take in culture and activities at the June 12 Cultural Center, which has a nightclub, OBJ Hilltop, & library and also has lots of late-night activities. There are far more places to explore.
The club scene in Abeokuta caters for all, from exclusive tucked away joints mostly in hotels & parts of Ibara Housing Estate lounges to open places where you can meet friends & associates, dine, wine, and be merry as the music blares.
Please come to Abeokuta, the City Under the Rock that Rocks What’s your view? Please share, thanks
