I went past my school, African Church Grammar School Abeokuta. I can’t believe the number of kids in the school. If you have any doubt about Nigeria’s population growth approaching 250 million, you just need to go to any public school where you will see average class sizes of 130-150 & more overflowing.
I met Irele carrying this chair, & I asked him what he was doing. Can you believe Irele Peters has to bring his own chair into school like the rest of his fellow students?
What happened to free education we all enjoyed from 1979 to 1984 when my late Uncle Chief Akinola Ogunpola was Comm of Education? Apart from uniforms, the state provided books and pencils. Pens, math set, exercise books, jotters, tables, & chairs.
Now schools in Ogun State make students carry their own chairs to school & buy their own books, etc. No wonder Ogun state is ranked No. 16 in School Exams Our Glorious past lost
Many current & past governors in SW enjoyed free education with bursarieses in th1950’s,’s60’s,s & 70’supo Unto universityevel. Now many of them are delivering Sham Free Education.
Are our standards improving or reducing in the SW? Who is to blame the Fed GovState Govt, ate or Govt? ovts. Some will blame Northerners, others the Fed GGovt, orrestructuring. Education is on the recurrent & residual list, notthe exclusivee list. The truth is Southern Govrs & Southern Govts areblame, lame most especially those in SW.
All acrossAbeokuta,a you will find wooden School chairs outside carpenters workshops for sale I wasn’t aware kids have to buy them & put their names on them so they don’t get stolen. This is a shame.
With the continuous influx of Nigerians from the North, SS & SE toSW,W it’s no wonder some of the largest class sizes in Nigeria can still be found in SW schools
What do youthink wek we progressing or regressing in the SW after the legacy of Awolowo’s Free. Education?
Without Frefreealitative education up to highh school,, we are creating a problem for ourselves. Please share,, thanks.
